Gracie

F1 Safari Cat

The Safari Cat is a relatively new hybrid of a domestic cat and the exotic Geoffroy’s Cat.

Safari Cats will likely continue to be a rare breed, as Geoffroy’s Cats are not common, and the hybrid reproduction is limited due to genetic complications. Combining the 36 chromosomes of the tiny South American Geoffroy’s Cat with the domestic cat’s 38 chromosomes results in the Safari Cat bearing 37 chromosomes. First-generation Safaris, like our Gracie, are considerably larger than either parent. A tiny five-to eight-pound Geoffroy’s Cat mating with a 12-pound domestic can produce a 25-pound male Safari and 12-to 16-pound female.

Gracie came to Avalo in 2013 and enjoys sitting in boxes and watching visitors from high in her enclosure. Come see our beautiful Gracie; you might not see another Safari Cat in this part of the U.S.!
